Person Centred Emergency Preparedness

Person Centred Emergency Preparedness focuses on tailoring emergency preparedness and response strategies to meet the unique needs and preferences of individuals. It recognises that each person has specific circumstances, abilities, and requirements that should be taken into account when planning for and responding to emergencies. ICOPE aims to ensure that these unique needs, capabilities, and preferences of individuals are considered and accommodated during emergency preparedness, response, and recovery efforts. This approach promotes inclusivity, respect for diversity, and the protection of individual rights, ultimately leading to more effective and compassionate emergency management practices.

The P-CEP framework helps you to think about your strengths and support needs in eight areas and can be applied to anyone but is particularly effective in emergency planning for individuals with a disability, mental health issue and older residents of Iluka.
